How to Set Up SSD Cache on QNAP NAS
Step 1: Determine compatibility
Before setting up SSD cache on your QNAP NAS, ensure that your model supports this feature. Check the official QNAP website or consult the product documentation to verify compatibility.
Step 2: Install SSDs
Open the NAS enclosure and install the desired SSDs in the available slots. Ensure the power is off before performing any hardware installation. Connect the SSDs using compatible cables, and securely fasten them in place.
Step 3: Access the QTS interface
Connect your computer to the same network as the NAS and launch a web browser. Enter the NAS IP address or hostname in the address bar to access the QTS interface.
Step 4: Enable SSD cache
1. In the QTS interface, navigate to "Storage & Snapshots" and click on "Storage/Snapshots Manager".
2. Select the "SSD Cache" tab and click on "Create" to start the SSD cache creation wizard.
Step 5: Configure SSD cache
1. On the SSD cache creation wizard, select the SSDs you want to allocate for caching.
2. Choose the caching mode according to your requirements: Read-only, Read-write, or Auto.
3. Specify the SSD capacity to reserve for caching and select the volume(s) to cache.
4. Choose the cache replacement policy (Least Recently Used or Random).
5. Customize the block size and buffer flushing policy based on your workload.
Step 6: Apply and initialize SSD cache
1. Review the summary page to ensure all settings are correct.
2. Click on "Apply" to begin the initialization process.
3. Wait for the initialization to complete. The time required may vary depending on the capacity and performance of the SSDs.
Step 7: Monitor SSD cache performance
1. Once the SSD cache is initialized, navigate to "SSD Cache" in the Storage/Snapshots Manager.
2. View the cache utilization, hit rate, and other performance metrics in real-time.
3. Optimize cache settings as needed for better performance.
