Setting up a Game Library on your Synology NAS for Gaming
Step 1: Install and Configure Plex Media Server
1. Access your Synology NAS and download the Plex Media Server app from the Package Center.
2. Install and launch the Plex Media Server.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts to set up an account and configure the server.
4. Create a new library within Plex specifically for your games.
Step 2: Organizing Your Game Library
1. Create a folder on your Synology NAS where you want to store your game library.
2. Within this folder, create separate subfolders for each game, ensuring you have the necessary game files in each respective subfolder.
- For example:
- Game Library Folder
- Game A Folder (containing game files)
- Game B Folder (containing game files)
- Game C Folder (containing game files)
3. You can also create additional subfolders within each game's folder, such as "DLC" or "Mods."
Step 3: Adding Games to Plex
1. Open the Plex Media Server web interface.
2. Navigate to your game library and click on the "Add Library" button.
3. Select the "Games" library type and give it a descriptive name.
4. Click on the "Browse" button and navigate to the folder where you stored your game library on your Synology NAS.
5. Plex will automatically scan and detect the games in the selected folder. Confirm the game titles and metadata, and click "Add Library."
Step 4: Configuring Plex for Game Metadata
1. Select your Game Library in the Plex web interface.
2. Click on the pencil icon to edit the library settings.
3. Ensure the correct agent is selected for fetching game metadata (such as the "Plex Games" agent).
4. Click "Save Changes" to apply the settings.
Step 5: Accessing the Game Library from Your Gaming Device
1. Install the Plex app on your gaming device (such as a gaming console or smart TV).
2. Launch the Plex app and sign in with your Plex account.
3. Navigate to the Game Library, and you should see all the games listed.
4. Select a game to start playing, and Plex will stream it directly to your gaming device.
