Proper way to shut down a Synology NAS
To shut down a Synology NAS properly, follow the steps below:

Open the Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) interface

Log in to the DSM interface

Click on the "Main Menu" icon

Select "Control Panel"

Go to "Hardware & Power"

Click on "Shutdown"

Select the desired shutdown method
- Power off: This method shuts down the NAS immediately without any warning.
- Restart: This method restarts the NAS immediately without any warning.
- Log off: This method only logs off the current session and keeps the NAS running.

Confirm the shutdown

Access the DSM interface by entering the NAS's IP address in a web browser.
Enter the username and password for your NAS to log in to the DSM interface.
In the top-left corner of the DSM interface, click on the menu icon, usually represented by nine squares.
In the main menu, locate and click on the "Control Panel" option.
In the Control Panel, find and select the "Hardware & Power" section.
In the Hardware & Power section, click on the "Shutdown" option.
Choose the appropriate shutdown option based on your needs:
After selecting the desired shutdown method, a confirmation dialogue box will appear.
Review the information in the confirmation dialogue box and click the "OK" button to proceed with the shutdown.
